Library of Congress

Greetings all,

Today was a beautiful weather day and a great day to visit the Library of Congress. The plan was for a bunch of fellow libarians to meet (note to self: what is a bunch of librarians called?) and mosey on down to the Library of Congress - yes! THAT library - and get a personal tour with the uncle of one of the said fellow librarians. We met, we drove (and some drove more than others but that's another story), and we Metro'd our way just to the right of the heart of downtown Washington D.C. We jogged, walked, hobbled and crawled our way for six blocks to the Madison Building. The LOC is so big, it has 3 large buildings - The Nina, The Pinta and The Santa Maria....noooo..ooops. Sorry. Wrong story. The buildings are The Madison, the Jefferson and the Adams Building.

The buildings are connected by underground tunnels which are inhabited by trolls. We had a wonderful lunch in the 6th floor cafeteria in the Madison Building and then we went back to the Jefferson Building for our tour with Art. That is...all but one person who insisited that she get a LOC library card. I won't name names here, but she is the one writing this blog! (And for a small consideration, she will show you her card, hahaha that is..only to those who did not abandon her and left her sitting outside the gift shop wondering where everyone was).

At last the group was together in the Member's Room. What a gorgeous room! I need to stop chatting right now, but take a look at some of the pics I took and you can see that there are few words to describe the oppulence and workmanship of this Library...truly a treasure!
